Not Taking Me Yet

never wanted to stay
you wouldn't have it any other way
new to the world
i didn't know how
     to think or feel
what I wanted
     to think or feel

lassoed the night
choked out midnight
so the dawn-lit day could breathe
no slack in your tether
remembering the inside
i couldn't say anything has changed
you lassoed the night
reeled it in
unconditional
covering me with dust of stars
saw the light in you
     seeing the light in me
you hung around waiting...

                for me...

                to breathe

heart-stopping beginning
breath on my head
fingers on my lips
hand on my sore
waiting for life to start
singing about heaven
Not taking me yet
