Elf Letters 2016: Night Five

For the last several years, Elves - with very interesting names - from the North Pole have come to visit our home beginning at midnight on the first day of December. They leave little trinkets for each of our daughters, but more importantly they leave a letter for them to read each morning. The great thing about the letters, that I've come to realize and appreciate, is that they each serve a purpose. They are not just quickly written notes on Post-its, but instead are filled with the importance of family, the real meaning of Christmas and a reminder of how special and beautiful (and fortunate) they each are. I look forward to their visits as much as the girls do.

The FIFTH day of the TWELVETH month

Hello and Good DAY our LOVELY angels of Virginia!

You know what’s funny? You weren’t the only ones that watched Home Alone this weekend! We LOVE that movie up here! But everybody has to be there to watch it. It’s something we look FORWARD to every year. Santa blurts out so many HO HO HOs that hearing him laugh is almost funnier than the movie itself.

We know our letters have been a tad BIT lengthy – something you may appreciate when you’re older as you look back on them – but, tonight we’ll keep it short and sweet. ACTUALLY, we are going to write a little poem before bidding you a good night…well, a good night for us, but a blessed morning for YOU.

Soon the hour will be here
Where the sleigh of bells
Will take flight into the starry night
Children wide-eyed when the sun so bright
Will soon be in bed
Nestled in their dreams
Wishing they could have stayed
Up to take a peak
And catch a glimpse
Even if only a little
Of the jolly, joyful man
Sliding down and
Landing with his prominent bound
Into their home –
Decorated more with smiles
And stories of years before than
Of lights and ornaments that dangle
Overlooking the living room –
He takes extra care
While placing the presents
That will soon leave a trail
When the waking hours
Bring with it children that
Know in their hearts
The true meaning of Christmas

We LOVE you Madison, Bailey and Sophie!

Your Elves,
Glow, Brilliance and Lucky Charm
