Elf Letters 2016: Night Seven

For the last several years, Elves - with very interesting names - from the North Pole have come to visit our home beginning at midnight on the first day of December. They leave little trinkets for each of our daughters, but more importantly they leave a letter for them to read each morning. The great thing about the letters, that I've come to realize and appreciate, is that they each serve a purpose. They are not just quickly written notes on Post-its, but instead are filled with the importance of family, the real meaning of Christmas and a reminder of how special and beautiful (and fortunate) they each are. I look forward to their visits as much as the girls do.

WE are smiling from EAR to EAR, Graybill girls!  We love your HOME and we LOVE knowing that in just a few hours you’ll be up and bright-eyed ready for the day. READY to make good choices and to learn from the bad ones.

Christmas is getting CLOSER and closer! Can you feel it? Are you EXCITED!? The only thing I don’t like about Christmas is the fact that it HAS to END. But I read a quote once…actually right before landing in your living ROOM that said, “Don’t be sad that it’s over, SMILE because it happened.” Wow! What a quote! Theodore Geisel said that. Oh, he also went by the name of Dr. Seuss. He’s right though. We need to appreciate every moment during this wonderful time of year and smile knowing that God has BLESSED us. ALL of us.

While whooshing through clouds – and some YUCKY rain – getting here, I started WRITING some things in my journal to make the time go by faster (although, it takes 72 seconds to get here). Want me to SHARE what I wrote? It’s kind like the ABCs of Christmas. It’s been done BEFORE so nothing original, but I had fun writing it.
Here’s what I have so far…and if you like it, I’ll have the ELVES tomorrow night bring it along to write down for you.

A   for the ANGELS that sang Hallelujah
for the far AWAY manger where our Lord lie
for the AMAZING lights that represent the light of the world

B   for the BOOTS we wear in a BLUSTERY BLIZZARD
for the presents that are BROUGHT, but especially
for the gift that didn’t have to be BOUGHT

C   for the CANDLE light that illuminates a darkened room, but does
          not illuminate transgressions
for the CHRISTMAS tree adorned with decorations and the CHIMNEY
that’s the sliding board of St. Nicholas
for the CHARITIES that too many turn away from, but thankfully are  still
receivers of  the good hands of grace…and don’t forget the CAROLERS with
CANDY CANES while singing in joyous CELEBRATION

That’s ALL I have so far. You’ll have to tell us what you think?
We better get back now before we take a snooze on your couch. Thank you for sharing your home with us and allowing us to come.  Enjoy your delicious treat!

We love you! Merry Christmas!
