Elf Letters 2016: Night Ten

For the last several years, Elves - with very interesting names - from the North Pole have come to visit our home beginning at midnight on the first day of December. They leave little trinkets for each of our daughters, but more importantly they leave a letter for them to read each morning. The great thing about the letters, that I've come to realize and appreciate, is that they each serve a purpose. They are not just quickly written notes on Post-its, but instead are filled with the importance of family, the real meaning of Christmas and a reminder of how special and beautiful (and fortunate) they each are. I look forward to their visits as much as the girls do.

12.10.16

Wow! What a performance! That Christmas production was PHENOMANIAL!  Absolutely inspiring! Your performances gave the AUDIENCE so much joy. I think that may qualify as being DIFFERENCE makers.

Before heading to Northern VIRGINIA tonight, I was doing some devotions and came across something that made me stop and think…YOU don’t always need traffic lights to stop and THINK. Sometimes words, especially scripture, can be God’s way of speaking through us.

I read that in order for people to see “God With Us” they need to see in God IN us. This may be a little hard to understand, but in a nutshell, it means GOD lives within us and is always surrounding us with his LOVE, grace and mercy.  We don’t need someone to relay our joys and sorrows to. He’s right here, BESIDE you, ALL the time.

So, if He is always with us, then people need to see that. They NEED to see that He’s with us. Along for the ride so-to-speak.  Because we have to choose for HIM to live within us. If we do that, then that means we SHOULD want people to see that. Just like when you get a super, awesome grade on a test, you want people to see it because you’re proud. Same goes with JESUS. But we can’t just hang him up on the fridge like a piece of paper or a craft project.

It’s through our actions and our words that show people that we live the life of a Christian, unashamed to proclaim him as King of Kings. So, Graybill girls, we would really LIKE for you to really, really, REALLY try acting and speaking to each other and WITH love and KINDNESS. Just like Jesus taught us. But not just by words, but actions as well. Hug EACH other more and spend more time PLAYING games while enjoying each other’s company.

We’ll be sure to continue the ABCs tomorrow night. For your little gift tonight, we decided to do something different. We DECIDED to place your gift somewhere in the house. Not necessarily hidden, but just not out in the open like the others. While you are using your CLUES to find it, we want you to think about no matter where you are, no matter how near or how far you are from your gift, God is with you. No matter what is GOING on in your life, nothing will be more true.

Okay, so here are your clues:

Sophie, your gift lies beneath a tick, tick, ticking and among many stories. You are very near it when playing p-i-g with your sisters. Do you know WHERE we placed it?!

B, your gift lies among items that warm our skin when out in the cold or snow. It’s above things that although give comfort to our feet, can become pretty nasty and smelly. Do you know WHERE we placed it?!

Madison, your gift is…nowhere! You don’t GET one! HA HA, just joking! Your gift lies kind of near a star that sets atop a well-lit mountain-shaped figure among trains, plains, birds and ballerinas. Do you know WHERE we placed it?!

Hope you enjoy them.  Have a wonderful day with your FAMILY!

Merry Christmas! We love you!

Your Elves,

Lou, Lah and Row
